“What to Prepare forJobs Unrelated to Your Major?” was the topic of the workshop organized by Faculty of International Studies – University of Foreign Language Studies, the University of Danang on January 11, 2024. This has been a concern and question for many students while still in school. Therefore, the workshop attracted a large number of students from Faculty of International Studies as well as from other faculties to participate.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Le Thi Phuong Loan– Acting Vice Dean of Faculty of International Studies emphasized: the workshop was organized with the aim of providing students with a comprehensive view of professional careers in society, thereby guiding students towards appropriate career orientations. At the same time, it aimed to instruct students on how to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to prepare for their future careers upon graduation.
The speaker of the program was Mr. Lee Hyuk Chan – Master of International Studies at Washington University – USA. He is currently the business development director of BIDU application – a fashion and beauty application under MJ Art Group company.
As a Korean who graduated with a Master’s degree in International Studies in the US, but is now very successful in the fashion business in Vietnam, Director Lee Hyuk Chan had interesting shares with the students about working in a sector unrelated to his major. From his own experiences during his studies and on his journey to the business profession, Director Chan helped students answer questions relating to their studies, their preparation to venture into a completely new environment when the opportunities come.
After Mr. Lee Hyuk Chan’s sharing, there was a discussion with the speaker under the moderation of MSc. Vo Thi Giang -a lecturer of Faculty of International Studies. raised various questions to the speaker about working in the unrelated field after graduation when society has currently had a diversity of occupations with many job opportunities.
Sharings in the discussion were also provided by Ms. Le Phuong My Hien – a former student of Faculty of International Studies . Currently, she is taking on the role of communications and marketing director of BIDU. With friendliness and closeness, she instilled new energy in the students when sharing about her journey in the completely new and challenging field of communications and marketing after graduating from International Studies programs.
The workshop took place very successfully as all the shares of the speakers as well as alumni were really necessary for students to find a suitable job after graduation. The workshop also helped students get rid of common worries such as confusion about their future career direction, ambiguity about unrelated jobs, etc. Student felt more confident in making career choices with a promising future upon graduation.
