On May 8, 2015 approved by the Rector of University of Foreign Language Studies, the University of Da Nang (UFLS-UD), Department of International Studies held a seminar on professional development skills and soft skills for the students of the Department.
At the event, people could see the presence of Mr. Nguyen Thai Trung, Head of Student Affairs Department, Ms. Huynh Le Minh Chau, Vice Head of Academic Affairs Department, Mr. Vo Van Phu, Vice Head of Personnel and Administration Department and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, Vice Dean of French Department. The speakers at the seminar were Ms. Tong Thi Thu Huyen, Executive Director of INDOSUN Company Ltd. and Mr. Lee Peng Hung Bernard, Director of GATES Global Pte. Ltd, Academic Director of ICAN International Education in Da Nang, Vietnam. About 200 students and alumni of the Department of International Studies heartily joined the seminar.
The two speakers talked about expertise and skills that students should have to be successful in their future job interviews and work. According to Mr. Bernard Lee, the graduates must own 4 Hs and be fluent in English in order to work effectively at any companies in the very competitive labour market nowadays. These Hs are HEAD, HAND, HEART and HABITS. As the directors of successful enterprises, the speakers also shared some experiences on how to cope with sensitive questions posed by interviewers relating to the applicants’ expectation of salary, promotion opportunities, job pressure, etc. After each presentation, the speaker spent some time exchanging with the audience. There were about 20 questions asked and answered.
“This seminar is one in the series of activities in the efforts of the Department of International Studies, UFLS-UD to help undergraduates approach enterprise requirements. The knowledge gained from these activities are very applicable and useful for them on the way to conquer a job position after graduation in the era of global economic integration and especially in the time of ASEAN community which will come into effect at the end of 2015,” said Associate Professor Luu Quy Khuong, Dean of Department of International Studies, UFLS-UD.
